The current energy crisis represents a major challenge for Europe but also an opportunity to increase necessary efforts to accelerate the green transition and secure its energy autonomy.

To face this unprecedented challenge, the European Commission has recently published its plan to accelerate the energy transition and lower EU’s energy dependency. This plan known as the REPowerEU package is made up of strategies, legal documents and guidelines and focuses on saving energy and replacing fossil fuels with clean energy on the one hand, while, on the other hand, finding replacement sources of fossil fuels and building new fossil-fuel infrastructure.

Effective implementation of bioenergy and cogeneration solutions can represent a significant role in reaching European energy objectives. However, the full potential of these solutions remains unexploited and the current REPowerEU plan is very vague concerning their use.

To discuss all these issues, we have organized a new webinar of the BIOCOGEN 2030 platform. Ennio Prizzi from Bioenergy Europe has presented the REPowerEU plan and its critical aspects. Dr. Norbert Vasen has presented the potential of BLAZE and Smart CHP systems in addressing the objectives listed in the EU plan. The recording of the session is available here:
